    We are thrilled that you’re joining the Worcester State University community! We’re here to welcome you to campus and help you learn the ropes—tips that will help you do well in class and build lasting friendships. During orientation you will:

    Our comprehensive orientation program includes sessions for transfer students and parents.

  • First-Year Student Orientation

    This orientation will acquaint you with life at Worcester State University. Whether you’re a campus resident or a commuter, you’ll have the opportunity to meet members of the Worcester State community while participating in academic sessions and workshops that will help you get to know other members of your class year and major. We wrap up the day with evening entertainment.

    Transfer Orientation

    Our Transfer Orientation is a half-day program that gives you a comprehensive overview of academic and campus life at Worcester State University. Although you likely will have attended first-year student orientation at your previous college or university, it is important to understand that every college is different. Through our Transfer Orientation Program, you will become familiar with our campus and the services we provide.

    Winter Orientation

    Attending our January Orientation program helps new students enrolling at WSU mid-year—both transfer students and new incoming students who have not yet attended college—to be fully prepared for the beginning of the spring semester.

    By attending this orientation session, you will have the opportunity to learn more about everything that WSU has to offer. The program will guide you through the specific requirements of WSU’s academic programs and provide information on campus services and commuter- and resident-student life.

    Parent Orientation

    Our Parent Orientation covers everything that you, as a parent, need to know to support the success of your student. This half-day orientation includes:

    • Academic overview
    • Conversation with campus representatives
    • Campus tour
    • Residential life and commuter life presentations
    • Student perspective on campus life
    • Information for parenting a first-year student

      Do I need to attend Orientation?

      It is strongly recommended that you attend a first year orientation program. Not only is this a chance for you to make new friends and become familiar with campus, but you will also be spending a lot of time learning about your academic program and other facets of campus life.

      How am I notified after I register for Orientation?

      Once you complete your registration, you will see a confirmation page that includes any additional program information that you may need to know. About a week prior to your session, you will receive an additional confirmation email reminding you about your program.

      How early should I arrive on campus for Orientation?

      If you are staying overnight during your Orientation program, check-in will be from 8:15-9:15 a.m. in Dowden Hall. If you are commuting to campus for each day of the program, check-in will be from 9-9:30 a.m. in the Sullivan Auditorium Lobby. The program will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. in the Sullivan Auditorium.

      Do I need to attend Orientation to get my classes for the fall semester?

      You will not be choosing classes at Orientation. By the time you attend Orientation, you will have already chosen your first semester classes at Student Registration Day. Look for an email from the Academic Success Center for more information on registering for this day.

      What if I have special dietary needs or overnight accommodations?

      We can accommodate all dietary needs or other accommodations. Make sure to note any accommodations on your program registration. Certain accommodations will require you to get in touch with Student Accessibility Services.

      Where can I park my car during Orientation? Where can I park during the semester?

      You are allowed to park your car on campus during the Orientation Program. When you arrive for Orientation, Orientation Leaders will guide you to the appropriate lots. First year residents are not allowed to have cars on campus. Commuters will receive a parking pass in the mail prior to classes.

      How do I get my student ID?

      You will receive your Worcester State OneCard at Orientation. Photos will be taken on Day One of the program, and you will be given your card before you leave campus on Day Two. Your OneCard is your official WSU ID card.

      What if I cannot attend any of the summer sessions?

      If you are unable to attend any of the Orientation sessions, please contact the Orientation office at 508-929-8615. You will be invited to participate in Transfer Orientation in August.

      Is there a cost to attend Orientation?

      The cost of Orientation is included in the fees that you pay as an incoming first year student. The only additional fee is the $25 for the optional overnight, if you wish to participate.

      Do I have to attend both days of Orientation?

      Each day of your Orientation program includes important information about your time at Worcester State, and are equally important. You will also receive your OneCard ID on day two. We encourage you to take time now to plan your schedule so that you can get the most out of your program. Day two is scheduled to end by 3:30 p.m.
