  • Scholarship Application Process

Applying for Worcester State University academic scholarships is a simple, online process. Our online application service automatically recommends scholarships based on answers entered into an application form.

Even when no scholarship applications are being accepted, you still may log in to the system using your WSU credentials, complete the general scholarship application, and save your answers. You also may log in to update your scholarship application throughout the year.

Below are steps to help guide you through the scholarship application process:

  • Getting Started
The scholarship application has a General Application section and an Opportunities section. After you submit your general scholarship application, the program will automatically apply you to those scholarships for which your information is a perfect match. You will not need to take any further steps. Please note that more than half of the scholarships have this “auto apply” feature.

To maximize the number of scholarships for which you will be considered, it will be important to also take advantage of applying to any additional scholarships that the system recommends for you based on answers entered on your application and/or academic information uploaded from our campus records database. To apply for these additional scholarships, you must click on the scholarship listed and follow the instructions to be considered for these scholarships.

If corrections need to be made after your scholarship application has been submitted, you can log in and update your information as long as it is before the application deadline passes.
    Personal Statements

You will be asked to provide 3 brief personal statements designed to help Scholarship Review Committee members learn more about you. This gives you the chance to describe yourself as a WSU student, your post-graduation plans, and your financial situation.

You can cut and paste your information into the personal statements portion of the application from any word processor program. Do not use special text formatting such as bold, italic, colors, etc., as these will not appear.

Pay special attention to spelling, grammar, and content as your application will be carefully reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

    Password Protection
All scholarship applicants must use Worcester State login usernames and passwords to log in to the scholarship application. If you are a newly admitted student, please make sure you have received a WSU student ID number and have activated your Blackboard account with a valid email address before you attempt to apply for scholarships.

As a WSU student, you can use your WSU login credentials as you log in and out to complete and update your application without having to create and remember a different password.

If you need help with your Worcester State ID or password, please visit our University Technology Services Help Desk at 508-929-8856.
    Security
WSU is committed to providing the latest security and data encryption services for your protection. We do not collect personal information on our website to sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose to outside organizations.
    Scholarship Directory
You can review the opportunities page for a comprehensive list of hundreds of academic scholarships when you log in to the scholarship application portal. Since scholarships are offered by various donors, departments, and organizations to students who meet specific criteria, we encourage you to apply regardless of your accomplishments, field of study, class level, or GPA.

Please note there may be different deadline dates for the various scholarship opportunities. Since these deadline dates can change without notice, please do not procrastinate on finishing the application process.

Does the number of classes I’m taking affect my eligibility for a scholarship?

Yes. All scholarships, unless otherwise noted, require full-time enrollment for both semesters for the academic year in which they are to be awarded.

Do I need to submit my FASFA?

You might. A FASFA is required for some scholarships. This requirement will be stated in a scholarship’s criteria.

What is the value of the average scholarship?

The dollar values of our scholarships vary and are listed with each scholarship in the online directory. Please note that scholarships that are awarded for full tuition are limited to the value of in-state tuition for state-supported credits.

How do I apply for scholarships?

You need to access and complete our online scholarship application. We do not distribute paper applications; we will only accept the online scholarship applications. By submitting this application, you will have an opportunity to be considered for all possible donor-funded scholarships.

Our online application system requires you to complete a 3-step process: (1) submit a general application, (2) submit a 500-word essay about why you need scholarship assistance, and (3) submit a unique explanation about why you would be the most deserving recipient of a particular scholarship.

Can I apply for more than one scholarship?

Feel free to apply for as many scholarships for which you feel qualified.

How do I obtain a Worcester State username and ID number?

You must first apply for admission to Worcester State University and be accepted. Your acceptance letter will include your username and ID number. Current students should use their current WSU login credentials. Any questions should be directed to the WSU University Technologies Help Desk (508-929-8856).

Who is eligible to apply for scholarships?

Scholarships are available to all matriculated students who are continuing or transfer students, undergraduate and graduate students, and incoming freshmen who are planning to attend Worcester State for the academic year. Most scholarships require full-time attendance.

Scholarship eligibility is administered by WSU, and qualifications vary according to stipulations of individual donors who funded the scholarship. Factors for consideration typically include scholastic achievement, academic major, involvement in school organizations, and participation in community activities. Factors are listed in each scholarship’s criteria.

Are international students eligible for scholarships?

International students who are currently enrolled at WSU can apply for scholarships using our online application. Incoming international students who are not currently enrolled, or have not been admitted, are not eligible to apply.

    When will recipients be notified?

The awarding of scholarships starts at the beginning of May and usually concludes by the end of August. After the application deadline has closed, you will need to monitor your Worcester State email to see if you have been awarded a scholarship. If you are awarded a scholarship, a congratulatory email will be sent to you stating the name and amount of the scholarship. The notification process does not include a notification to all applicants, but only to the selected recipients of a scholarship.

How do I thank the donor of my scholarship?

As a scholarship recipient, you’re required to send a thank-you letter to the donor(s) of your scholarship. Your award letter will require you to return the thank-you letter to the University Advancement Office, which will review your letter and forward it to the donor(s).
